Care For Your Vagina

Women get manicures for their hands and pedicures for their feet, but hardly take a moment to think about their vagina until something is wrong. We should change this attitude and be more proactive in protecting our vaginal health.

One of the most important and fundamental steps is to practice good personal hygiene. Here are 8 things to do to improve the vagina hygiene.

1) Keep your genital area clean and do not use douches and perfumed soaps.

2) You should also avoid feminine sprays and scented tampons.

3) Practice safe sex by using condoms. The best decision is to stay in a mutually monogamous relationship with your partner, so that there is no risk of sexually transmitted infections.

4) Wear cotton underwear and use panty-liners so as to absorb sweat and prevent odour.

5) Eat Yoghurt or even insert plain unsweetened yoghurt into the vagina,in cases of vagina odour likely to be a yeast infection.

6) Avoid foods that contain lot of sugar and yeast (like beer, bread, mushrooms).

7) Vaccinations can help to protect vaginal health as well. The HPV vaccine protects you from infection by the human papillomavirus, which can cause cervical cancer and genital warts. Hepatitis B vaccinations protect you from liver infections that can spread through sexual contact.

Most importantly, get to know your vagina. This way, you will be sensitive to any changes that occur, whether it is due to an infection, a medication that you are taking or some other underlying condition.
Avoid the frequent use of antibiotics as they affect the normal bacterial flora of the vagina.

Do not be shy or embarrassed to talk to your doctor about your vaginal health. It is as much a part of you as any other organ or limb in your body.
